Gasworks Exhibitions Intern Opportunity

Gasworks is looking for a committed intern to assist the Exhibitions Curator at Gasworks on the exhibitions programme, events and the new reading area.


Tasks involve assisting on all aspects of Gasworks’ Exhibitions Programmes. In this role an intern will gain valuable experience of working alongside the curator on solo and group exhibitions, research projects, and events, with an insight into the organisational and administrative skills necessary to run a leading artistic programme.

Internship duration: ideal commitment of six months on a two-day a week basis. The days can be flexible.

The intern will be responsible to the Exhibitions Curator and will have excellent communication skills, be enthusiastic, organised, autonomous and hands on, with an ability to problem-solve. An interest in research-oriented and discursive practices, film and performance is particularly relevant to this position. Good writing skills are preferable.

Tasks and experience gained may include:
- Assisting artists and liaising with them on a variety of projects
- Organising events
- Sourcing material and equipment
- Supervising installations and in some instances contribute to them
- Liaising with the Audience Development Co-ordinator and designers
- Undertaking research for and contributing ideas to certain aspects of the exhibitions, the events, the reading area and the bookshop
- Drafting texts
- Helping to organise local and international transport of artists as well as works
- Collating expressions of interest in the exhibitions programme and responding to requests
- Filing, documentation and archival responsibilities
- Helping at the level of fundraising and seeking sponsorship

Call for Artists: TULIPAMWE 2008 PROJECT



ARTISTS ARE INVITED TO APPLY TO PARTICIPATE IN THE TULIPAMWE 2008 PROJECT WHICH WILL BE HELD FROM 16 – 30 AUGUST 2008 IN A RURAL VILLAGE IN NAMIBIA.

2. A brief motivation of not more than one (1) page, dealing with (a) your personal philosophy and (b) why you wish to participate in this workshop

3. 10 images of your recent work

4. If you are applying from abroad, please state whether you are able to raise funds for your air
travel to/from Namibia·
